Centered around the former Taitung Railway Station, this project draws from the city’s century-long railway history to create a new cultural brand: TAITUNG Line. By connecting local history and shared memories, the former station is reimagined as a place where the past, present, and future meet.
Built on the idea of connection, TAITUNG Line brings together space, history, and everyday experiences through exhibitions, public spaces, and brand design. More than a former transportation hub, the former Taitung Railway Station is transformed into a new cultural platform — a place that carries the memories of the city while sharing Taitung’s unique pace of life and charm with future visitors.
Curated under the brand “TAITUNG Line,” this project responds to the historical context of the former Taitung Railway Station by transforming railway development and local memories into content that can be both understood and experienced. At the same time, it functions as a key entry node of the Old Station District, guiding visitors in understanding the overall development of the area.
The site adopts “curation” as a strategy for brand-building, placing human experience at its core. The original station structure is reimagined as a cultural space that supports visiting, staying, and social interaction. Spatial functions include a Brand Center (providing site information and indexing the remaining station structures), a Permanent Exhibition Area of the Old Station District (introducing the overall development context), a Historical Exhibition Area (presenting a century of railway history and local stories), and a Lounge Area integrating reading, dining, and special exhibitions—creating diverse and engaging scenarios for public use.
The exhibition strategy combines “surface-based displays” and “point-based installations,” embedding railway memories into spatial circulation and functional zones. This approach enables visitors to naturally experience exhibitions, rest, and social interaction as part of a continuous journey through movement and pause.
