▌Project Overview

Every leap of the body traces back to a single origin. The Former Taitung Railway Station, once the vital transport hub of Eastern Taiwan, has reinvented itself as a new landmark for cultural imagination, breathing fresh vitality into the region.

The “Original Point Uprising” uses circus and physicality as a catalyst to explore where we stand and how our bodies echo the land. It is a festival of play and performance rooted deeply in the local soil.

Our journey does not begin in the urban center, but from the Fourth Quadrant—the most remote, yet most liberated edge—running toward the Pacific. We allow Taitung’s wind, sound, earth, and people to reconnect us with the raw, primal instincts of body and performance.

Rather than chasing technical flash or rigid frameworks, we summon the body’s untamed nature and the instinct to play. By co-creating in the moment amidst the landscape, the wind, and the sound, we invite both audience and performer to slow down, unleash their wild side, and open the gateway to physical sensation and natural resonance.

▌Program Description

Every leap begins from the source. Under the theme "Original Point Uprising," the Circus District of the 2026 Taitung Expo transforms the historic Taitung Old Station into a vibrant hub where the body harmonizes with the land. Moving beyond mere acrobatics, this festival summons our primal instincts and playful spirits, inviting everyone to "Slow down, go wild" amidst the Pacific winds.

The program deeply integrates Taitung’s unique landscape with world-class performances. Key highlights include Wanshang Circus’s high-altitude stage play, "Great Sage Havoc in the Dragon Palace," and Unique Contemporary Circus’s "Wheel of Destiny," featuring Taiwan’s only giant wheel apparatus. Furthermore, Tien Ma Circus’s "Moving Green Theatre" acts as the "heart of the land," while Round Theatre and Circus Gate explore the authentic connection between breath and weight through works like "Austronesian Mambo" and "Slow Travel". From breathtaking aerial displays to intimate street interactions, we invite you to this sensory feast to witness the most free and untamed uprising of the body in Eastern Taiwan.

The Parade Carnival will take place in downtown Taitung on Saturdays and Sundays from July 4 to August 16, 2026, presenting fourteen sessions across seven weekends. Centered around the Taitung Old Station area, the procession connects the Tiehua Road pedestrian zone, Xinsheng Park, and nearby urban arts venues, bringing a lively afternoon carnival into the heart of the city.

Led by floats and energized by percussion, movement, themed installations, large-scale puppets, distinctive costumes, school and community teams, and invited performing groups from Taiwan and abroad, the carnival turns the streets into an open-air stage that brings performance closer to the public.

Each week unfolds under a different theme, beginning with the beauty of Taitung and expanding into international exchange, ethnic cultures, oceanic imagery, dance rhythms, music and sound, and artistic creativity. Visitors may enjoy the parade along the route or follow the procession as it moves through the city, experiencing a passionate moment where Taitung’s diverse cultures and carnival spirit meet.
