This project is part of the “Drifting” chapter of the 2026 Taitung Expo. Over the course of one year, more than 300 field studies and in-depth interviews were conducted to explore the dilemmas many people from Taitung face between leaving home and returning home, as well as their evolving sense of identity, belonging, and pride in their hometown.
The exhibition adopts the format of a theater, inviting everyone connected to Taitung to step into a collective narrative about outward migration, inward migration, and returning home. It focuses on the choices and transitions Taitung people experience at different stages of life, while also reflecting the growing number of individuals who, drawn by Taitung’s lifestyle, choose to begin a second chapter of life here.
“TTwilight” symbolizes the enduring hope each person carries through life, while “Golden” represents memories and values accumulated over time. Through immersive experiences of imagery, sound, and space, the theater becomes a stage where countless life stories unfold. The exhibition aims to reconnect people with the land they belong to, allowing every visitor to discover Taitung—and perhaps themselves—within these stories.
Combining indoor exhibition spaces, an outdoor theater, and 10 side events, the exhibition creates an emotional theater dedicated to the stories of Taitung. The content highlights the life journeys of those who left home to pursue opportunities elsewhere, the courage of returnees who contribute to their hometown through entrepreneurship and action, and the experiences of newcomers who have chosen to settle in Taitung.
The indoor exhibition includes sections such as “Portraits of Drifting and Striving,” “I Am a New Taitung Resident,” and the “Taitung MTV Booth.” Through archival photographs, audio recordings, and interview footage, visitors are invited to experience Taitung memories across different generations.
The outdoor theater operates every evening, screening the featured film Dear Taitung, selected works from the Taitung drifting series, and nostalgic retrospectives on old Taitung. Under summer breezes and the night sky, audiences are encouraged to watch films while reflecting on their connection with Taitung, home, and sense of belonging.
During the exhibition period, 10 side events will take place, including the Taitung Returnees Party, Taitung Alumni Reunion, the comedy show Laughing Until You Can’t Handle Taitung by Comedy Club, and themed KTV sessions. Through participation and exchange, the program invites people connected to Taitung to return—physically or emotionally—to this land, rediscovering the warmth of home and local identity through stories and shared experiences.
