Weaving Life Between Mountains and Sea
This is not an exhibition defined in advance, but rather an evolving process that began with a question and gradually took shape through local engagement. Through a series of workshops and gatherings held as part of Tau Tau a Taitung Slow Guide, we invited residents, creators, and practitioners from different townships to reflect together on a seemingly simple yet deeply meaningful question: “If you live in Taitung, what role do you play here?”
What emerged is a process of weaving a “slow economy” — connecting the agricultural landscapes of the Rift Valley, the movements along the South-Link region, the gathering practices of the coast, and the everyday acts of cooking, dwelling, and labor within local communities into an interconnected system of living.
Here, “economy” is no longer understood merely as a relationship between production and consumption. Instead, it returns to life itself: the origin of a meal, the material of a craft object, the route of a journey, and the ways people coexist with the land.
This micro-exhibition does not present a final answer, but rather an ongoing proposition in the making — shaped by the ideas of local residents, the process of practice, and collective imaginations of future ways of living.
